Graduation 2012 is on Saturday, May 19!
More than 250 seniors will graduate from Mapleton Public Schools on Saturday, May 19, making the class of 2012 one of Mapleton’s largest graduating classes! The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at DiTirro Stadium, 8990 York St., Thornton. Congratulations!
To accommodate all who wish to join us on this special day, the School District created a parking plan that assigns graduate families to parking lots near DiTirro Stadium. Please follow the parking plan assigned to your school. Shuttles will be taking families to and from the stadium.

York and North Valley families
Parking at: York International School, 9200 York St., Thornton
Academy and MESA families

Seniors earn more than $2 million in scholarships

82 soon-to-be Mapleton graduates earned a combined $2 million in scholarships to help them achieve their post secondary dreams! The seniors were honored for their accomplishments at the Scholarship Breakfast on Wednesday, May 9. The Mapleton Education Foundation awarded 46 students with $56,000 in scholarships. Students also received scholarships from the Boettcher Foundation and Daniels Fund, among many others. |
Leaders, students in Mapleton’s Air Force Junior ROTC honored
Headquarters of the Air Force Junior ROTC honored SMSgt Jerry Archuleta with the Outstanding Instruction Award with Merit. This is the second year Mr. Archuleta has received this award, and he is one of two instructors in Colorado to be recognized at this top level. Mapleton’s Air Force Junior ROTC Cadet Stealth Squadron was also presented with the Outstanding Organization Award. Congratulations!

Mapleton students ages 8-18 are invited to move, play and succeed at the 2012 Mapleton on the Move Athletic Skills Camp! Sponsored in partnership with former Denver Bronco Darius Holland and Impact Sports founder and former Tennessee Titan, Jamie Heiner, Mapleton's Skills Camp offers three half-days of athletics and leadership training. Welcome Center now located at York International School
The Mapleton Public Schools Welcome Center is now in their temporary home at York International School (9200 York St., Thornton). The Skyview Campus location is closed due to upcoming renovation and construction work. The visitor entrance and parking for the Welcome Center at York International School is located along 93rd Place on the north side of the building. The Welcome Center is not accessible from York International School's main entrance. Look for signs directing you to the Welcome Center entrance!

- Academy High School sophomore places in Regional Science Fair
Alicia Juarez’s science project “Insect Pheromones” received 3rd place in the Senior Behavioral and Social Sciences category at the 49th Annual Denver Metro Regional Science Fair! The competition was held at the Museum of Nature and Science on February 22. Alicia received ribbon, certificate and gift card for her outstanding project. Congratulations!
- Mapleton's 2012 Spelling Bee Champions
After correctly spelling ‘virtuoso,’ Valley View 8th grader Daniel Salazar became Mapleton’s 2012 District Spelling Bee champion. Seventh grader Cheyenne Espinosa and 8th grader Casandra Vigil, both from York International School, placed second and third, respectively, in one of Mapleton’s most competitive spelling competitions to date. All three students will go on to represent Mapleton Public Schools in the State Spelling Bee on March 10th at the Colorado Convention Center. Congratulations to all of Mapleton’s outstanding spellers!
- Valley honored for student success and achievement
Foundations for Great Schools honored student achievement at Valley View with a $15,000 grant. Valley View was selected along with 14 public schools in the Denver metro area to receive a grant. Valley View was selected for their outstanding success and improving academic performance. Congratulations!
- Adventure Elementary honored by CDE
Adventure Elementary received a 2011 Centers for Excellence Award from the Colorado Department of Education. The award is presented each year to schools that demonstrate high academic growth and outstanding student success in the face of significant challenges. Congratulations!
- Wolverine quarterback Sergio Lara honored
Mapleton Public Schools senior Sergio Lara was selected as the Brian Dawkins Athlete of the Week! Brian Dawkins, a Broncos safety, presents this award to high school athletes who demonstrate strong commitment to sports and academics, good character on and off the field, and have overcome adversity. Sergio, a quarterback for the Skyview Wolverines, led the team to a 7-3 record this season. As a part of the award, Sergio got tickets to watch the Broncos host the New England Patriots last Sunday and received pregame sideline passes. Congratulations!
- Mapleton Board of Education welcomes two new members
Mrs. Karen Hoopes and Mr. Ken Winslow were sworn in as official Board members during the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 22.
- Mapleton's Board of Education and Superintendent honored
The Mapleton Public Schools Board of Education and Superintendent Charlotte Ciancio were honored for outstanding leadership and professionalism. Mapleton's Board of Education was named the 2011 All State School Board by the Colorado Association of School Boards. Superintendent Charlotte Ciancio has been named 2012 Colorado Superintendent of the Year by the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE). As Colorado’s Superintendent of the Year, Ciancio is eligible to become the National Superintendent of the Year. The national winner will be announced in February.
- Mapleton's CSAP scores UP at all grade levels!
2011 CSAP results show Mapleton students increased math and writing scores at nearly every grade level and all grades have better scores than they did five years ago! Third graders were up to 53% proficient or advanced in math – up from 41% in 2007. Third graders also showed big gains in reading, up from 45% to 58%! Freshman were 33% proficient in writing, up from 19% in 2007. Sophomores were 30% proficient in writing, up from 19% in 2007. Read the full Denver Post article here. - "Sink One" a Success at Mapleton
More than 200 people came out to "Sink One for Success" during Mapleton Day at Adventure Golf and Raceway in Westminster. The event, organized by the Mapleton Education Foundation, raised more than $7,000 for the Elaine T. Valente Opportunity Fund. Twenty-two local businesses and community members sponsored the event. - Grants Perk up Playgrounds in Mapleton
Grants are bringing safer places to play for students at several schools in the District. New ADA-friendly equipment and surfacing will be installed at Clayton Partnership, Mapleton's Toddlers Program, the Bertha Heid Campus, York International and Global Leadership Academy.
